Put simply, traditional bunk beds are two single bed frames stacked on top of each other to save space. All bunks feature a ladder to enable easy access between the top and bottom bunks.
Bunk beds are required to meet British Standard Specification (1 BS EN 747) for them to be considered safe. All bunks sold by Amare Living satisfy this requirement and are therefore accredited. Some of the safety features required include fixed side rails on the top bunk and smooth edges across the entire frame.
White bunks are recommended for children above the age of four with anyone below the ages of six advised to use the bottom bunk only. If you’re searching beds for children below the recommended ages, we advise opting for toddler beds instead.

Bunk bed mattresses for the top bunk should have a depth no greater than 15cm to enable the side rails to work effectively and prevent any falls from the top bunk. Similar to standard mattresses, the firmness of the mattress determines comfort.
For young children, we would generally recommend one of the following two mattresses:
Soft Mattress – great for children who enjoy curling up on their side into a fetal position during sleep. The soft mattress with memory cushioning adds an extra layer of support for young hips and shoulders.
Medium Mattress – These are a level up from soft mattresses, providing a delicate balance between softer and firmer properties. It is advised this be the firmest tension for young sleepers as firmer properties could have negative impacts on sleep quality.
