Bunk beds are required to have smooth edges free of anything which could cause cuts or bruising and the side panels should be fixed securely to the frame. Top bunk mattresses should have a depth of no greater than 15cm to ensure the side panels can work effectively to prevent bumps and falls.
It is advised that bunk beds should be used by children over the age of four whilst those below six years of age should stick to using the bottom bunk. Children under four should sleep in beds more appropriate for their age group.
