Furnishing Your Bedroom in Your First Home

The big move to your first home is sometimes as stressful as it is exciting. Before you’re ready to move in you will need to buy all sorts of furniture, including beds and mattresses. This can be a time consuming and costly exercise if you’re not careful with your spending. Bedroom Furniture

Without stating the obvious, your bedroom needs a bed. It is important to make sure the bed you choose is suitable for your requirements as well as not being big or too small for your bedroom. We have a range of beds available in all sizes from single, small double and double all the way to king and super king, and there are also various styles of beds available. Traditional bed frames such as metal, wood and leather are slowly being phased out and replaced with warmer, more striking upholstered fabric beds. Divan beds are a great choice if you are undecided on the theme of the room, meaning they are also a smart choice if you are in favour of regularly changing the layout and décor of your bedroom. This is because the headboard and footboard are separate to the base and can therefore be adapted and customised to your bedroom theme and colour without having to purchase an entirely new base.

The next large purchase to consider is your mattress. It is medically proven that sleep is important to both our mental and physical wellbeing. Ensuring you have adequate bedroom storage should also be high on your list of priorities. Wardrobes and chest of drawers are of course your primary storage solutions, but utilising the space beneath your bed is proving increasingly popular to maximise storage among homeowners. This is especially common in smaller bedrooms where floor space is at a premium.

There are two common types of under bed storage:

1. Storage drawers – these are an additional option for divan bases. They provide the option of up to four pull out storage drawers (maximum of two on 3ft single beds). They sit on assisted runners, which enable easy access to the storage facility, and each drawer can hold up to 15kg in weight.
2. Ottoman storage bed – ottoman frames function seamlessly with a gas-lift hydraulic system that works together with the base to raise it up, allowing easy access to the storage feature beneath the bed base. You should also consider accessorising your room with storage ottoman trunks which serve as an extra seating solution in the bedroom as well as a handy storage feature to store away bedding, linen and other items.
